Ships and aircraft assigned to Florida Navy installations in the path of Tropical Storm Idalia will start sortieing today in preparation for the storm’s landfall.

Idalia is heading north from the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to turn east and cross over Florida and Georgia in the vicinity of Naval Station Mayport, Fla., and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga., on Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

National truckload spot rates increased a marginal 1.5% over the past week, according to the National Truckload Index (NTI), as the first hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. this year hit the southwest coast of Florida. Big 3 carriers suspend service amid Hurricane Ian’s aftermath

The country’s largest carriers have suspended service in some Florida ZIP codes impacted by Hurricane Ian.

The trio of UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service have identified on their respective websites a list of area codes where service will be suspended temporarily.

As of noon Thursday, UPS’ service alerts page listed nearly 1,000 ZIP codes that have been affected, while FedEx on Wednesday shared a list of 383 Florida cities — including Tampa, Orlando and Miami — in which its Ground segment...

Ian remains strong tropical storm, could reform as hurricane

Update as of 3 p.m. Thursday 

After causing historic flooding and devastating damage on the west coast of Florida, Ian on Thursday began moving up the Atlantic Coast, where the latest forecasts have the storm reforming as a hurricane before making landfall again. 

Ian will produce flooding, storm surge and strong winds across portions of northeast Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas in the coming days, according to the National Hurricane Center.
