Hutchison Ports BEST has put into operation at its terminal in the Port of Barcelona the first electric Reach Stacker in Southern Europe.

Port of Barcelona opens first OPS system at Hutchison Ports BEST terminal

The Port of Barcelona opened its first Onshore Power Supply system (OPS) at Hutchison Ports BEST container terminal.

Hutchison Ports’s terminal in Barcelona adds 700,000 TEU capacity and new cranes

Port of Barcelona’s management board has approved the next phase of development of Hutchison Ports BEST (Barcelona Europe South Terminal) on the Prat wharf, a project that will cost US$69 million (60€ million) in total.

Hutchison Ports will invest US$35 million (€31 million) in civil engineering works to accommodate seven more container blocks, which translates to a capacity expansion of 26% or 700,00 TEU. The rest of US$32.6 million (€29 million) will be invested in 14 new automated cranes.

  • Hutchison Ports BEST, a semi-automated terminal, has welcomed LNG-powered vessel CMA CGM Scandola as the first container ship using LNG to arrive at the Port of Barcelona.
