Green hydrogen: The future of fuel?

Green hydrogen is gaining ground despite facing obstacles.

The transportation sector is researching and adopting the use of alternative fuels such as hydrogen fuel cells and electric batteries. The majority of hydrogen produced today comes from natural gas and coal.

Green hydrogen is hydrogen that is produced using electrolyzers powered by renewable electricity, according to a 2020 study entitled “The Role of Green and Blue Hydrogen in the Energy Transition — A Technological and Geopolitical Perspective” and written by Michel Noussan, Pier Paolo...

Hyliion hauls in $142 million from sale of stock warrants

Startup hybrid electric truck driveline maker Hyliion Holdings (NYSE: HYLN) is $142 million better off following the sale of shares converted from warrants issued by the blank check company (SPAC) that brought Hyliion public.

Interestingly, Hyliion doesn’t need the money to run the business. Its reverse merger with Tortoise Acquisition Corp. in October 2020 gave Hyliion $520 million after expenses to fund its business plan.

Airbus sets sights on zero-emission aircraft

Airbus releases zero emission aircraft concepts.

Building the world’s first zero-emissions commercial aircraft by 2035 is no easy feat. A future with hydrogen-powered aircraft at the center of aviation would require reliable supplies of hydrogen at airports worldwide, sufficient production of green hydrogen, in-depth safety measures for passengers and collaboration across the aviation industry.

Airbus is seeking to help make that future a reality with its three recently announced ZEROe concept aircraft powered by hydrogen.

It is partnering with

Roxana Bekemohammadi dreams of hydrogen ports.

“Here’s a bit of my ideal scenario,” Bekemohammadi told FreightWaves: “An ocean vessel docking at a port, with a mobile crane powered by hydrogen [hoisting cargo] onto a drayage truck powered by hydrogen and getting on a highway corridor supported by hydrogen infrastructure.”

This hydrogen-saturated vision feeds into an ambitious game plan eyed by a new industry alliance launched Thursday.

Comprised of heavy hitters and startups alike in the hydrogen...
