Jaxport adding more global container services in 2025

A host of ocean container lines are adding the Port of Jacksonville, Florida, to their services in 2025.

The new calls come as Maersk and Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC) dissolve their 2M Alliance vessel-sharing agreement as of January.

Jaxport said in a release that three primary changes are taking place beginning in February 2025.

HMM's Twelve 24,000 TEU Ships Fully Laden With Containers

HMM has signed newbuilding contracts with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering(DSME) and Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) for twelve 13,000 TEU container vessels, at a total cost of USD 1.57 billion.

Under the agreement, DSME and HHI will build six vessels, respectively, scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2024. All ships will be installed with hybrid scrubbers and designed to be LNG-ready.

The COVID-19 pandemic proved good for business for the world’s ocean carriers. 2020 was very good for South Korea’s HMM, which announced Tuesday a billion-dollar turnaround to record its highest operating profit ever.

Port of Houston lands new direct Asia service

Port Houston will be the first U.S. port of call in THE Alliance’s new direct Asia service.

The trans-Pacific EC6 service will begin in Kaohsiung, China, and reach the U.S. Gulf Coast through the Panama Canal.
