The HMM Algeciras entered Rotterdam’s Amaliahaven on its maiden voyage to transfer containers at the terminal of RWG (Rotterdam World Gateway). Algeciras is the most recent vessel to rank as the world’s largest container ship.

At maximum capacity, the ship carries slightly more 20-foot containers than its predecessor MSC Gülsün: 23,964 TEU versus 23,756 TEU. During its maiden voyage, HMM Algeciras is carrying a total of 19,621 TEU on board – itself a record number.

Total revenue in Q1 2020 decreased 0.2% (- KRW 2.8 billion) YoY to KRW 1,313.1 billion and operating profit improved 98.1% (+ KRW 103.7 billion) YoY to KRW – 2 billion.

Hamburg ‘unfairly singled out’ as container supply goes ‘out of kilter’

The port of Hamburg has hit back at recent media reports claiming container equipment is still in short supply at German depots.
It said that it had polled container lines serving German seaports to assess the situation on box availability, finding there was “no appreciable scarcity”.
Moreover, the port’s marketing association said the response to the survey also suggested carriers were “not expecting any shortages to arise”.
