IAPH, PortXL to develop a platform for port innovation

The International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) has added maritime accelerator PortXL as partner onto its World Ports Sustainability Program. An agreement was signed last week to develop a worldwide innovation platform, where ports can engage in pilots and partnerships with start-ups and scale-ups.

This comes as part of a short-term plan to bring IAPH members into contact with the network of innovators.

Watch: IAPH’s bunkering audit tool assists ports’ bunkering operations

IAPH pays great attention to the bunkering of the fuels of the future, such as ammonia and methanol, two fuels that will be linked with safety considerations; Thus, IAPH’s project “the Clean Marine Fuels audit tool” began with a focus on LNG bunkering.

‘Getting to Zero’ coalition initiative launched

Maersk and Port of Antwerp, supported by IAPH, launched a new joint initiative, called ‘The Getting to Zero Coalition’, aiming to a commercially viable zero-emission vessel industry for ships operating along deep sea trade routes by 2030.

The new initiative unites shipowners, port providers, ports and technology innovators with the goal of achieving zero emissions. Recently, IMO’s Sec-Gen highlighted the importance of zero-emissions ships to be more commercially attractive.

MAN Energy Solutions participates in Getting to Zero Coalition

Baltic Ports Organization joins World Ports Sustainability Program

The Baltic Ports Organization (BPO) entered the World Ports Sustainability Program, after the signing of the WPSP declaration by Mr Bogdan Ołdakowski, BPO Secretary General. The Program aims to improve and coordinate future sustainability efforts of ports worldwide.

BPO was created on October 10, 1991, in Copenhagen, in order to enable cooperation among the ports and improve the possibilities for shipping in the Baltic Sea region.

IAPH launches Women in Ports Mentoring Program

The board of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) announced the allocation of a budget fund of USD 10,000 to develop a Women in Ports Mentoring Program designed to attract, empower and retain female talent in the industry.
