HSFO Sales Up 47.2% From Q1 2020

In the first quarter of 2021, high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) has been the only bunker fuel to experience year-on-year growth in Singapore, the world’s largest bunkering hub, data from BIMCO shows.

HSFO sales are up 47.2% from Q1 2020, reaching 3.1 million tonnes.

This is, however, still less than a third of high-sulphur fuel sales in Q1 2019, before the IMO 2020 Sulphur Cap came into force.

Australian Heavy Sweet Crude Premium Dips from Record High

  • Demand for the oil used in fuel oil blending has slowed, causing spot premium for Australian Van Gogh crude oil for loading in October drop this week.
  • Australian producer Santos sold a 300,000-barrel cargo of the heavy, low-sulphur, or sweet, grade for loading on Oct. 3-7 to Japanese trader Mitsui & Co at $8 a barrel.

NYK Orders Energy-Saving Bulker from JMU

NYK Line has approached compatriot Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU) to construct a next-generation, scrubber-fitted bulk carrier on the back of a long term charter contract with JFE Steel Corporation, reports Seatrade Maritime News.

Newbuild for iron ore trade

The 211,000 dwt capesize bulk carrier will be delivered in 2021. Financial details of the newbuild were not disclosed.

APL Announce 47.4% Reduction in Carbon Emissions

Following the CMA CGM Group’s reinforcement of  environmental objectives, APL announced a 47.4% reduction in CO2 emissions per container transported per kilometre in 2018, compared to its base level in 2009, reports Sea News.
