Keep ‘boots on deck’ for better inspections and crew morale says Idwal

Idwal Chief Executive Officer Nick Owens: “Though the capacity to meet face-to-face may be constrained for some time to come, we will continue to need to put ‘boots on deck’ when it comes to maintaining quality standards in ship survey.”

The pandemic has demonstrated the value of remote working but the industry must recognise the importance of physical connection to the ship

TSA 100% screening option could be cheaper for cargo shippers

A TSA inspector observes cargo being loaded on a Saudia 747 jet. Split screen with TSA official in charge of Air Cargo division on the right.

Most people know the Transportation Security Administration as the folks with blue shirts who check documents and carry-on bags at the airport before passengers board aircraft. A big issue on the TSA’s plate this year is the June 30 deadline for member states of the International Civil Aviation Organization to implement 100% screening of export...

The drop in inspections was driven by a 28% decrease in wheat inspections, destined primarily to Latin America, and a 26% decrease in soybean inspections, destined mainly to Asia. Corn inspections, however,...

In late July, the two new 105′, 150-passenger catamaran ferries delivered to New Orleans in 2018 were boarded by the Coast Guard for inspection. Those inspections failed. No Certificate of Inspection (COI) was issued for either boat.

Though the new ferries, RTA 1 and RTA 2, were delivered last year by Louisiana boatbuilder Metal Shark, neither has been authorized to operate on its approximately half-mile route between the east and west banks of the Mississippi River.
