Major restructuring for intra-Asia service, as Evergreen upgrades its role

The joint service FAX/IEA/EAX/REA/FAS – operated by Emirates Shipping Line, Global Feeder Shipping, Interasia Lines, KMTC, Regional Container Lines, and T.S. Lines – is undergoing a significant change.

Asia box lines launch joint Southeast Asia – India service

Wan Hai Lines, Korea Marine Transport Co. and Interasia Lines will launch a new Southeast Asia – India Service VIII on 26 April.

The service will be operated by four container vessels with a nominal capacity of 3,000 TEUs. Wan Hai Lines will deploy two boxships, while Korea Marine Transport Co. and Interasia Lines will operate one vessel each.

The maiden voyage of the service will commence from Malaysia’s Port Kelang on 26 April and the service will have a 28-day fixed round trip schedule.

Interasia doubles newbuilding tally to half-dozen

Interasia Lines, the privately owned container shipping company of the Chen family that is behind Wan Hai Lines, has exercised options for three more 3,055 TEU ships at Japan’s Nihon Shipyard, adding to the three vessels that were ordered earlier in April.

The trio ordered this month will be delivered in July 2025, while the vessels ordered earlier will be delivered in January 2025.

Asian lines launch new China-India service

China United Lines continues to build on its service portfolio, launching a joint China-India service with Pacific International Lines, Regional Container Lines and Interasia Lines.

Five ships, each ranging from 2,500 to 2,800TEU, will be assigned to the service. PIL will deploy two ships, while CULines, RCL and Interasia Lines will each assign one vessel.

Hazardous goods suspected cause of Interasia Catalyst blaze

Interasia Lines’ management has disclosed that misdeclared dangerous goods caused the recent fire on the Interasia Catalyst, and plans to seek damages from the shipper concerned.

The fire began on 4 April in a number of containers on deck, with the captain sending a distress call at around 01:00, local time, shortly after the ship had left Port Klang, Malaysia.
