International Roadcheck results: Carriers have room for improvement

Results of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) 2023 International Roadcheck are in. The numbers reveal not much has changed since last year, and there is still plenty of room for motor carriers to improve their overall safety and compliance.

The annual three-day inspection effort took place May 16-18 throughout the U.S., Mexico and Canada. CVSA-certified inspectors hit the roads to conduct as many level I, II and III inspections as possible. This year, 59,429 Roadcheck inspections...

International Roadcheck is quickly approaching; here’s how to prepare

International Roadcheck is set for May 16-18, marking the 35th year since the annual event began.

Around 15 CMV inspections take place every minute during the three-day blitz, according to CVSA, making it the largest enforcement program involving commercial vehicles in the world.

This year’s planned focuses will be anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and cargo securement.

“ABS violations are not out-of-service violations,” CVSA stated. “However, the anti-lock braking system plays a critical role in...

Heads up: International Roadcheck is imminent

Drivers take note: International Roadcheck is May 17-19.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) annual inspection is only a few days away, but that’s just enough time to take care of a few loose ends.

Reliance Partners Vice President of Safety Brian Runnels encourages drivers to be a bit more thorough with their pre-trip inspections and to take a couple seconds more to check the air in their tires or take a look at their brake linings to save them from a handful of violations.

Brake Safety Week begins Aug. 22

Coinciding with Brake Safety Awareness Month, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has slated Brake Safety Week for Aug. 22-28, meaning drivers and carriers have just a few more days to tighten up on brake safety.

Over the seven-day period, inspectors will conduct North American Standard Inspections of commercial motor vehicles with a focus on brake systems and components, removing any inspected vehicle found to have brake-related out-of-service violations. CVSA will then compile data...

So Parmigiano, also a commercial vehicle inspector certified by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), decided to pull the truck over. It didn’t take long to see why the license plate had drawn his notice.

“It was written in black Magic Marker,” Parmigiano said.

Parmigiano is one of...

5 New Year’s resolutions to reduce your fleet risk in 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic saw the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issue a series of rules exemptions in 2020, but at no point was the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles affected. Safety, though, remains the primary objective for all operations. As waivers to existing rules expire, and new regulations...
