FreightWaves Classics: I-12 was built to help avoid I-10 in the Bayou State

Similar to Interstate 2 in Texas and Interstate 4 in Florida, Interstate 12 (I-12) is an interstate highway located entirely within the state of Louisiana. These (and other highways) are designated as interstate highways (although they are intrastate) because they were built to interstate standards.

I-12 runs west-east/east-west and parallels the older US 190 corridor and traverses the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain in  southeastern Louisiana. At only 86.65 miles, I-12 is very short for a...

The interstate system does not only link the nation, but it has significantly boosted economic productivity and helped to sustain a more than ten-fold...

Roads remain closed days after Hurricane Delta leaves Gulf Coast (with forecast video)

"Road Closed" barrier at the end of a highway.

Hurricane Delta made landfall Friday evening in southwestern Louisiana, packing winds of 100 mph with higher gusts. While Delta’s impact on trucking and other modes of freight transportation appears minor, the effect on local supply chains may be a bit more significant. Even with the remnants now 1,000 miles away, recovery continues.
