BOEM reports competitive interest in two U.S. Gulf Wind Energy Areas

While a lackluster response to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s first Gulf of Mexico offshore wind lease sale was largely attributed to the challenges of floating offshore wind, there are some U.S. Gulf Wind Energy Areas where fixed foundation wind turbines might be feasible.

That would appear to include Wind Energy Area (WEA) options C and D off the coast of southeast Texas.

Two winning bids in Gulf of Maine floating wind lease sale

Today, BOEM completed its sixth offshore wind lease sale by offering areas in the Gulf of Maine – the first commercial sale for floating offshore wind on the U.S. Atlantic Coast. The floating wind lease sale resulted in two provisional winners on four lease areas and over $21.9 million in winning bids.

New Jersey offshore wind gets back on track

Back in October last year, New Jersey’s plans for offshore wind development took a hit when Ørsted announced that it would cease development of the Ocean Wind 1 and Ocean Wind 2 projects.
