US sanctions imposed on Iranian shipping network take effect

The logistics industry should again be careful of dealings in Iran, following the implementation of new US sanctions yesterday.
The US has warned commercial and maritime industries that they too risk sanctions if they do business with the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and its Shanghai-based subsidiary, E-Sail Shipping Company. The US has also asked governments to investigate activity by those companies in their ports and seas. Reuters reports.

Singapore Salvage set to offload Shahraz cargo

Vessel operator Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), the owner-operator of the Shahraz, which was involved in a double grounding in the Singapore Straits, has appointed Singapore Salvage Engineers to offload cargo and lighter the remaining fuel on board the stranded vessel.

The company told Container News that it has not signed a Lloyd’s Open Form and is not at this time ready to salvage the vessel....

Iran denies claim its boxship seized in Libya

Iran has dismissed African media reports that an Iranian cargo ship has been seized by the Libyan Government of National Accord over the US sanctions.

“No ship has been seized,” said Mohammad Saeidi, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, on Sunday.

“There are disagreements with the Libyan government over a ship, but it’s not been seized, and we are in talks to settle the differences,” he added.
