Ensuring containers safety on board container ships

Uwe-Peter Schieder, Loss Prevention Manager at GDV (German Insurance Association – Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft) and Vice-Chair of IUMI’s Loss Prevention Committee, provides his comment on securing containers on deck of a container ship.

IUMI obliges refineries to conduct testing on low sulphur fuels

IUMI, the International Union of Marine Insurance, forces refineries to test on low sulphur fuels ahead of the introduction of the global sulphur cap on 2020. IUMI stated that fuel testing is undertaken by the end-user but this has to change.

Specifically, IUMI reported that it is concerned that incidents on fuel contamination are increasing.

Moreover, the Union addressed that refineries should be compelled to conduct testing and confirm the delivery of non-contaminated fuel.

IUMI: Fuel quality a growing challenge in IMO conventions

Fuel quality and safety was high on the agenda during the 100th session of the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) in early December.
