Vehicle handling steers JAXPORT to cargo gain

The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) provided evidence the global automobile manufacturing industry is recovering from the economic crash it suffered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, reporting its vehicle volumes grew 7% year-over-year in its first fiscal quarter.

The 185,513 vehicles moved between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 marked the second-busiest quarter for the automotive sector in the Jacksonville, Florida, port’s history.

1A Auto will park its Southeast distribution operations in Jacksonville, Florida.

The online-only aftermarket auto parts retailer will open an 86,800-square-foot warehouse near JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal in the first quarter of 2021.

Tugboat captain presumed lost off Florida coast

The Coast Guard said Monday night that it had suspended the search for a man who had fallen from a tugboat near Blount Island in Jacksonville, Florida, early Sunday morning.

Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville said it received notification at about 3 a.m. Sunday from the tugboat Pops that a 42-year-old man had fallen into the water while transferring to a barge and had not resurfaced.

E-commerce gives ship to shore new meaning

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way Americans shop. And Jacob Horsely of Cushman & Wakefield believes now that consumers are comfortable ordering on sites from Amazon to Zappos, they won’t go back to brick-and-mortar shopping.

Amazon shooting possible case of domestic violence

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) is describing a Tuesday night shooting that left a woman dead inside an Amazon Fulfillment Center as a possible domestic incident.

JSO was dispatched to respond to reports of shots fired at the facility, located near the Jacksonville, Florida, airport, at 7:24 p.m. A female reportedly was dead at the scene from at least one gunshot wound. A man also had been shot and was transported to a local hospital. His condition has not been announced.

Breaking News: One fatality reported in Amazon warehouse shooting in Jacksonville, Florida

News4Jax reported Tuesday night that two people were shot at an Amazon Fulfillment Center in Jacksonville, Florida, and one of them has died. 

A large police presence outside the Pecan Road facility was filmed at 8:35 p.m.
