Jaxport completes vehicle berth expansion

The Jacksonville Port Authority said it has completed a yearlong construction project to expand vehicle Berth 22 at the Blount Island Marine Terminal. 

The berth is the first of two vehicle berth projects in a $60 million initiative to increase efficiencies and accommodate additional vehicle vessel calls. 

The expansion will enable Berth 22 to accommodate larger vehicle vessels 750 feet in overall length.

Jacksonville Port Authority braces for Hurricane Helene, possible ILA strike

As Hurricane Helene inches closer to Florida and a possible strike looms over East and Gulf Coast ports, the Jacksonville Port Authority has provided a weather and labor update.

Florida lawmakers present $30M to Jaxport for new container cranes

Florida legislators have provided the Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) in Florida $30 million to purchase two new container cranes for the Blount Island Marine Terminal at the Port of Jacksonville.

Jaxport says the cranes will increase the port’s cargo handling efficiencies, which will allow more cargo to move through the port. The new ship-to-shore cranes will replace outdated equipment at the port.

Ceres, JAXPORT agree to 20-year lease of container terminal

Ceres Terminals will lease and operate a 158-acre container facility at the Dames Point Marine Terminal at JAXPORT in Florida for the next 20 years.

JAXPORT’s board of directors, which oversees the port in Jacksonville, Florida, unanimously agreed to the $60 million deal between Ceres and the port in which Ceres will modernize the TraPac Jacksonville container terminal. Florida’s JAXPORT boasts record container volumes in May

May was a record month for container volumes at JAXPORT, the Florida port serving the greater Jacksonville area and beyond.

Total container movements rose by 37% year-over-year in May to more than 128,900 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), beating a previous record of 123,700 TEUs set in October 2019.

For its 2021 fiscal year, which runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, container volumes are up by 15% year-to-date to nearly 950,000 TEUs.
