The Committee of Creditors (CoC) has backed the resolution plan placed by state-owned Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to buy the debt-laden Dighi Port Ltd under India’s bankruptcy and insolvency law.

Privately built Krishnapatnam port (Nellore district of Andhra) has been eating, it says, into the earlier cargo share of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT, at Navi Mumbai), the country’s largest container port.

JNPT handled 5M TEUs of container in 2018

Leading container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) on Friday (Jan. 4) said it handled over five million TEU of container traffic in 2018.

The state-run company recorded a 7.24 per cent growth in both container and bulk cargo volumes during 2018 to 5.05 million TEU, it said in a statement issued here.

In December 2018, JNPT handled 4.45 lakh TEUs, which is the highest container volume handled in a month, ever recorded, it said.

JNPT calls bids to develop SEZ on 296 acres

The JNPT Port, Mumbai, will soon call for fresh bids to develop a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on 296 acres of industrial area developed near the port. This would be the second bidding process of JNPT management in the last two months.
