Ports of Indiana has hired maritime logistics executive David Parrott to serve as the statewide port authority’s chief operating officer. Parrott has worked in the marine industry for 30 years as a former CEO of Liberty Terminals, vice president of operations for Metro Ports, and international logistics manager for Schneider Logistics and Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

Ports of Indiana ships second-highest annual cargo total

Ports of Indiana shipped 13 million tons of cargo in 2024, the second-highest annual volume in the statewide port authority’s 60-year history. Cargo shipments increased for the fourth straight year, up 3% from 2023 and second best to the 2018 record of 14.8 million tons.

Fednav’s Federal Indiana makes first port call in its namesake state

Officials welcomed the new ocean vessel Federal Indiana to Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor on Monday, marking the ship’s first visit to its namesake state.

Launched in 2024, the Federal Indiana is owned and operated by Fednav, Canada’s largest bulk shipping company. The Seawaymax vessel is 200 meters long and 24 meters wide, the largest possible dimensions for vessels that pass through the locks connecting the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean.

Ports of Indiana celebrates opening of its first new dock in 20 years

Local officials and port workers celebrated the opening today of a new $6 million dock that will serve ocean vessels at Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor. Lake Michigan sea cargo terminal plan wins a key CBP approval

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has approved a proposal from Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor to establish the first international sea cargo container terminal on Lake Michigan.
