A container ship contacted the wall at New North Lock in Brunsbuettel, while entering the Kiel Canal, Aug 1, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What happened?

Container ship BOMAR VALOUR contacted the wall at New North Lock in Brunsbuettel, while entering Kiel Canal, at around midday Aug 1. 

Delay in handling the stern mooring line was reported to be the cause for the accident.

According to local reports, the lock wall was severely damaged, suffering a hole or dent of 10×1 meters, 4 meters...

Cargo ship hits Kiel Canal lock

The Antigua Barbuda-flagged general cargo ship ‘BBC Amethyst’ collided with a lock in the Kiel Canal in Kiel-Holtenau, Germany, in the early morning hours of Sunday, 7th April.

The vessel was en route from Norrköping, Sweden to Rotterdam, Netherlands, at the time of the incident.

The ship was about to enter the large northern lock at about 06:45 am, but it ended up colliding with the control centre of the locks. Initial estimations suggest the ship had excessive speed at the time.

Container ship collides with pier in Brunsbüttel Port

The general cargo ship ‘Calisto’ went off course after experiencing rudder trouble on the Elbe and collided with the quay of the Elbe Port in Brunsbüttel, on March 24. The ship was heading to the Gdynia from Hamburg when the incident took place.

The Liberia-flagged ‘Calisto’ was approaching Brunsbuettel for further Kiel Canal transit when it experienced rudder issues. These made the ship go off course and subsequently collide with the quay of the Elbe Port in Brunsbüttel.
