TForce Freight drivers win small victory in truck speed fight

TForce Freight has turned back up the speeds of some trucks in a small victory for drivers angered over the LTL carrier’s move to slow down its fleet by 3 mph, FreightWaves has learned.

TFI International-owned TForce increased the maximum speed to 72 mph of sleeper cab trucks based at its Houston terminals during the past week, sources said.

Teamsters fight TForce Freight truck slowdowns

The Teamsters union is fighting a move by TFI International’s TForce Freight to cut the maximum speed of trucks from 68 to 65 mph.  

The union’s national negotiating committee for TForce quietly filed a charge with the National Labor Relations Board on July 12. It alleges that TForce, formerly UPS Freight, violated federal law by modifying the speed limiters without consulting the union and refusing to negotiate after the fact.

Port of Montreal longshore workers threaten to strike Monday

The union representing Port of Montreal longshore workers threatened an indefinite strike on Monday in a move that could severely disrupt operations at Canada’s second-largest port. 

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) said the strike will begin Monday morning in the event it does not reach an agreement with port employers.
