South Korea ministry develops IT system to tackle misdeclared goods

South Korea’s Ministry of Ocean Affairs and Fisheries (MOF) will establish a computer system that identifies dangerous goods in containers that may be undeclared, in order to eliminate the risk of fires and explosions.

MOF said on 13 February 2020 that it plans to conduct joint inspections with Korea Customs to eliminate undeclared dangerous goods that are placed in containers.

Laem Chabang expansion continues despite hiccup in container throughput

Container volumes at Thailand’s Laem Chabang port remained flat last year, despite a big uptick in US-bound cargo.
According to Alphaliner, Thailand recorded a 17.8% increase in export volumes to the US in 2019, reaching 620,000 teu. This increase was second only to Vietnam, where volumes jumped 34.8% to 1.5m teu.
