Viewpoint: Amazon speeds up its fast-delivery capabilities post-COVID

Amazon.com Inc. had been heading toward meeting one-day delivery requirements for its Prime service when the pandemic slowed its progress. Since the end of the pandemic, the company has regained its fast-delivery mojo.  In response, the company said Monday that it plans to double the number of same-day delivery sites “in the coming years,” according to Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores.

Link Logistics sees rent renewals jump in Q2

Last-mile logistics real estate operator Link Logistics said Monday fundamentals continued to stay strong across its portfolio during the second quarter.

The company signed 418 leases in the period representing 13.3 million square feet of space. Its portfolio was 96.4% leased on a same-store comparison, which was 160 basis points lower year over year.

Flexport acquires Shopify’s fulfillment business

Digital-oriented freight forwarder Flexport has agreed to acquire the logistics arm of publicly traded Shopify Inc. and Deliverr, the tech-enabled shipping services provider Shopify bought last year for $2.1 billion, moving the emerging import-export firm into e-commerce fulfillment and last-mile delivery.

In exchange for its fulfillment assets, Shopify will receive a 13% stake in Flexport and a seat on the board, Flexport CEO Dave Clark told FreightWaves.

Food delivery platform Grubhub has now experienced two major leadership changes in less than two years.
