American Cruise Lines launched the 328’x60’4″ American Melody last week at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Md. The American Melody is the fourth new riverboat in ACL’s Modern Series, and is on schedule for its inaugural Mississippi River cruise season beginning in summer 2021.

Nichols Brothers launches third of four ASD-90 tugs for Foss

The third of four 100’x40′ ASD-90 Class tugs for Foss Maritime, the Leisa Florence, was launched at Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020.

The tugs are a Jensen Maritime Consultants, Seattle, design. The Z-drive tractor tugs are built to USCG Subchapter “M” regulatory standards, with ABS loadline certification, and UWILD notation.

Austal USA launches another Expeditionary Fast Tranport Ship

Austal USA, Mobile, Ala., launched the future Expeditionary Fast Transport ship Newport (EPF 12) into the Mobile River on Feb. 20. Chesapeake Shipbuilding Corp., Salisbury, Md., successfully launched the 94’x34’x10’6″ push tug Salisbury, the first of four sisterships for Vane Brothers, Baltimore. The new boat, designed by the shipyard, is Subchapter M compliant. Salisbury is scheduled to be delivered in July 2019.

The 3,000-hp boat is equipped with Caterpillar 3512 main engines, conventional shafts, rudders and flanking rudders. It will accommodate up to seven crewmembers and has large private and semiprivate quarters.
