China Rail launches Japan-Mongolia sea-rail service

China Rail has launched a sea-and-rail service to transport containers from Japan to landlocked Mongolia, via China’s Lianyungang port, 500km north of Shanghai.

The first train set off from Sino-Kazakh Logistics Cooperation Base (SKLCB) in Lianyungang in China’s Jiangsu province, carrying containers loaded with second-hand cars and construction materials, among other items. The containers had arrived by sea, from Japan, and will be railed to Ulan Bator, around 2,000km northwest of Lianyungang.

Florens sees upsurge in container demand

Container lessor Florens Asset Management Company (Florens) has reported a surge in container orders at its factory in China’s Lianyungang Port, since Chinese ports resumed normal operations in late March 2020.

Formed from the merger of two container lessors, Florens Container Holdings and Dongfang International Investment, in 2016, Florens is part of COSCO Shipping Development, which is also active in ship leasing.
