‘Nightmare’ for hauliers as demand swamps landside services at port of Liverpool

Peak vessel demand at the UK port of Liverpool last week brought severe landside delays and nightmarish waits for hauliers at the T1 terminal, according to a spokesperson for Peel Ports.
Feedback to The Loadstar this morning from hauliers suggested turnaround times for vehicles at T1 was “still very slow”, with the problem appearing to be a lack of straddle carriers to serve the landside operation.

  • 2M partners Maersk and MSC are swapping Felixstowe for Liverpool on their TA2/NEUATL2 transatlantic loop from the end of the year.
  • The last sailing from Felixstowe will be by the 8,822 teu MSC Athens in week 51, with the first sailing from Liverpool by the 6,478 teu Maersk Sembawang planned for the following week.

Felixstowe bans empties again as congestion builds and vessels ‘cut and run’

The embattled UK port of Felixstowe has again had to revert to refusing to accept empty containers, in a continuing effort to clear its congestion backlog.
According to customer notice from Taiwanese line Evergreen to UK shippers and forwarders, the port this morning announced it would “temporarily stop the restitution of all empty containers until further notice”.
