Fincantieri Bay to build second Polaris LNG bunkering barge

Sturgeon Bay, Wis., based Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding has agreed to partner with PNE Marine Holdings, an affiliate of Polaris New Energy to build a second 5,500 cubic meter LNG bunker barge. BV classes Norway’s first LNG bunkering vessel

Bureau Veritas (BV) has awarded its classification to Bergen Tankers’ Bergen LNG, the first LNG bunkering vessel (LBV) operating in Norway.

The vessel was created by converting the 2010-built oil tanker Oslo Tank to carry LNG instead of conventional liquid marine fuels. Bergen LNG is operated by Gasnor (recently acquired from Shell by Spain’s Molgas Energy) in the Bergen area and on the Norwegian west coast to supply the LNG fueled passenger ships operated by Hurtigruten and Kystruten.

Canada’s BC Ferries has released a video showing the launch of its fourth liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled Salish Class vessel at Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. in Gdansk, Poland,

Work at the shipyard will continue until the ferry’s scheduled sea trials in late 2021, following which it will make the 10,440 nautical mile journey from Gdansk, \ to British Columbia in early 2022.

The vessel is identical to the three Salish Class vessels built by Remontowa for BC Ferries in 2016-2017.

Yanmar generator engines selected for Japanese LNG-fueled ferry duo

Osaka, Japan-headquartered Yanmar Holdings has received an order from Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) for dual fuel 8EY26LDF engines. The engines will be used to power generators on board Japan’s first two LNG-fueled ferries (provisionally named Sunflower Kurenai and Sunflower Murasaki). First of six LNG-fueled box ships completes trials

The first in a series of six LNG-fueled neo-Panamax containerships has successfully completed sea and LNG gas trials in Korea. The ships are being built for Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping at the HSHI (Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries) shipyard and are each powered by an MAN B&W 11G90ME-GI main engine. The engines are the first to feature MAN Energy Solutions’s Pump Vaporizer Unit (PVU).

Two-thirds of shipowners have no decarbonization strategy, survey finds

Shipowners see ammonia and hydrogen as the most attractive fuel options for the long term, according to an ABS survey. Nearly 60 per cent of respondents said they viewed hydrogen and ammonia as the most attractive fuel choices in the long-term. However, the survey also indicated that nearly two thirds of owners currently have no decarbonization strategy in place.
