DP World’s UK faciltiy ships 10 million vinyl records

DP World has shipped over 10 million vinyl records from its Bicester facility, the UK’s largest distribution warehouse for music and video products, since August 2023, when the facility commenced operations.

Powered by semi-autonomous ‘picking’ robots, developed by Locus Robotics, the warehouse has become the epicentre of physical music distribution in the UK, playing a key role in the ongoing ‘vinyl revival’. Moving independently all across the warehouse following worker input, the robots...

Will multi-robot orchestration platforms transform warehouse logistics?

With tasks such as picking, sorting, loading and unloading packages being automated more and more with the help of intelligent robots, the future of warehouse logistics could bring a lot more automation and a lot fewer humans.

Experts say the key to the supply chain warehouses and fulfillment centers of tomorrow could be an emerging technology known as multi-agent orchestration.

“When you look at multi-agent orchestration, what it does is it gives freedom for retailers to choose their own set of...

Locus Robotics unveils solution for seamless integration of AMR models

CHICAGO — Warehouse robots are like ants. When one fails at its task, the entire colony can suffer. But unlike an ant colony, they’re often divided: Different robots typically perform different tasks and run on different systems, creating rifts in the ranks.

At ProMat 2023, Wilmington, Massachusetts-based Locus Robotics took steps to address that problem, announcing its new automation platform, LocusOne. The solution, unveiled Monday, can coordinate more than a thousand of the company’s...

Last-mile companies poised to shake up the market

U.S. retailers have a last-mile problem. Complex routes, failed deliveries, returned products and consumer expectations around delivery speed, flexibility and reliability have complicated the last-mile equation in recent years.

Add to that the rising costs of fuel and labor and the last mile is now the most expensive portion of the delivery process.

In fact, according to Capgemini, last-mile delivery accounts for more than half of the total cost of shipping. And per Statista, as much as $41 of...

Robots moving around warehouse floor

More than four years passed from the time a Locus Robotics autonomous mobile robot made its first warehouse pick to when an AMR made the 100 millionth pick. On Thursday, the company announced that its AMRs have now surpassed 1 billion units picked, taking just 59 days for the latest 100 million.

“Reaching our 1 billion-pick milestone underscores the critical business value that Locus’ proven technology brings to our customers around the world, every day,” said Rick Faulk, CEO of Locus Robotics....

A dumb box no more: Warehouses are built with intelligence in mind

Warehouse robots moving

PHILADELPHIA — The basic warehouse is made up of four walls. What makes a facility effective is what is built inside those four walls. In 2022, that means building facilities with the future in mind, yet one capable of leveraging robotics and business intelligence today.

The warehouse is no longer just a dumb box.

With estimates of just between 5% and 10% of all global warehouses having some form of automation, and the need to improve efficiency, especially in e-commerce warehouse operations, the...
