It is time for brokers to leverage integrations as selling points

Connectivity has become a hot topic in the logistics industry. Shippers are increasingly embracing integrations as a way to connect with partners, save money and automate tasks. That means brokers are being pushed to up their integration game.

Bitfreighter CEO, Brad Perling, founded the company with the goal of helping brokers scale integrations and provide the connectivity shippers crave.

“I felt there was nobody out there that really wanted to help brokerages do that,” Perling said. “It is...

Will the carrier pay my cargo claim? The answer may surprise you

As supply chains become more global and intricate, the risk of loss or damage to goods in transit increases. On a long enough timeline, challenges such as extreme rigors of transit, long voyages, extensive handling and rehandling, inclement weather, targeted theft, and impostor schemes guarantee losses.

In the absence of shipper’s interest cargo insurance to protect the cargo owner against financial loss, carrier’s liability is all that remains, and cargo owners are often disappointed by the...

Old-school RFP processes are keeping shippers in the past

Historically, the RFP process has been laborious, expensive and exclusive. Shippers have aimed to work with as few carriers and brokers as possible while locking in rates on an annual basis. “I think we’re going to see slow improvements. There are several factors that are just driving this to be a sustainable problem,” said Jim Monkmeyer, President of Transportation & LLP, DHL Supply Chain North America.

Many of the...
