Shanghai still world’s busiest container port, but Singapore is climbing back

The port of Shanghai has maintained its position as the world largest container port.
However, new data from Alphaliner today shows its lead over second-placed Singapore narrowed last year.
Shanghai posted 2018 throughput of 42.01m teu, 4.4% growth on 2017, while Singapore handled 36.6m teu, representing growth of 8.7%.
And the 5.41m teu differential between them was narrower than the 6.56m teu difference this time last year.

Unifeeder launches UK-Poland service to help shippers over Brexit

In its first network development since it was acquired by DP World, shortsea and feeder shipping line Unifeeder is to launch a new service, between London Gateway and the Polish port of Gdynia.

Maersk vessel’s arrival marks start of 2M service at London Gateway

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller arrived at DP World London Gateway on November 29, the first vessel on the AE7/Condor service to call at the port.

The flagship Maersk Line vessel, which is 399 metres long and able to hold 18,270 twenty-foot equivalent container units, berthed on the River Thames in the early hours of the morning on Thursday (November 29).

London Gateway wins 2M Asia-Europe service as Maersk tries to reduce ‘unexpected disruptions’

London Gateway has won its second Asia-Europe deep sea service after Maersk Line announced that the 2M’s AE7/Condor service will transfer its UK port call from Felixstowe at the end of this month, as pressure on inland container supply chains continues to mount.

Market uncertainty impacts DP World volumes, but ‘we stay on track’

DP World has reported a 2.6% increase in container volumes for the nine months to September.
But it has warned of deceleration in the market, as its third-quarter numbers declined 1.4% on the same period last year.
