Veterinary workers rally for union in SF

A crowd of 50 people and their pets rallied outside the VCA San Francisco Veterinary Specialists on Sept 27 in support of their newly formed union affiliated with the ILWU. The union vote marked the first time a group of veterinary workers in the country formed an ILWU-affiliated union. Union members and community supporters formed a picket line outside the animal hospital, demanding accountability and better work conditions.

Port of Oakland night gates will expand to speed up cargo flow

Another Port of Oakland marine terminal operator has announced that it’s opening night gates to accelerate containerized cargo flow. TraPac plans to add a second shift for harbor truckers beginning Oct. 15.

The move enables thousands of drivers to pick up or drop off Oakland containerized cargo from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m., Monday-through-Thursday. Port officials said night operations should accelerate cargo flow while reducing truck queues that sometimes build outside terminal gates.
