Four new Konecranes electric RTGs to improve Koper port operations

Luka Koper in Slovenia’s Port of Koper has ordered four Konecranes electric Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes to replace old machines in its container yard. The order was booked in the third quarter of 2024, with hand-over scheduled for the first quarter of 2025 at the latest.

Koper also has plans to construct a new quayside and container yard with additional storage space.

Port of Koper commences container terminal expansion project with public procurement

Recently, the Port of Koper announced a major public procurement for one of its largest and most crucial upcoming projects.

The investment will include the construction of a container quay and additional storage space in the northern part of Pier 1. The deadline for tender submissions is 30 September 2024.

Luka Koper becomes first Adriatic port to exceed 1 million TEUs in a single year

Port of Koper handled the millionth TEU of 2022 on 22 December, becoming the first port in the Adriatic to exceed one million TEUs in a single year.

Slovenian container port increases TEU capacity

Port of Koper in Slovenia has increased the container capacity of its Pier I by 15% and the box terminal now has an annual capacity of 1.5 million TEU.

Slovenian government plans new truck gate for Koper port

The Slovenian government will invest €4.4 million (US$5.4 million) to construct a new gate for trucks at the port of Koper, which will be the third entrance to the port.

The new gate will be intended mainly for container trucks, which represent more than half of the trucks entering the port of Koper, which registered a total of 330,000 trucks last year.

Port of Koper orders super post-panamax cranes

The operator of the Port of Koper, Luka Koper has signed a contract for the supply of two shore-to-ship cranes which will be installed in the new, extended part of the port’s container terminal.

The consignation and installation of the new machines are anticipated in the fourth quarter of the next year. Additionally, the technical characteristics of the cranes are practically identical to the last two cranes which were installed in April 2017.

Koper kicks off Pier I extension works

Port Koper has launched the main construction works for the extension of the southern part of Pier I, which is a “key infrastructural project for the container segment,” according to Luka Koper.

The first phase of the project consists of the quayside extension of 98,5 meters and 34,4 meters of width. The quayside is expected to be completed in March 2021 bringing the total length of the quay to 695 meters.

Luka Koper’s terminal extension officially approved

On 9th November 2018, Luka Koper received from the Slovenian Ministry of the environment the official notice that the building permit for the extension of the container terminal quayside is finally legally valid. The building permit was issued for the construction of the quayside 98.5 meters long and 34.4 meters wide and for the construction of a hinterland area (total size 24.830 m2).
