Lufthansa and Maersk launch cooperation for airfreight decarbonization

Lufthansa Cargo and A.P. Moller – Maersk have signed an agreement to promote the decarbonization of airfreight through the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The flag carrier of Germany will use 400 metric tonnes of SAF on behalf of Maersk in the remainder of 2024, which is an important contribution in the year-end business with traditionally high cargo volumes.

The expected reduction of CO2 emissions corresponds to at least 1,200 metric tonnes.

“Cutting greenhouse gas emissions from...

Maersk airline prepares to deploy first 777 freighters for peak season

Maersk continues to move ahead with plans to grow its air cargo business in 2024 even as many competitors pull back in the wake of a painful downturn, culminating with a milestone next quarter when Boeing expects to deliver the first two 777s for the airline operation.

The developments underscore the strategic shift in recent years of Danish shipping power A.P. Moller-Maersk (CSE: MAERSK) into an integrated logistics provider that can provide customers a full menu of supply chain and freight...

White Paper: How Do Shippers Plan to Navigate Current Air Cargo Conditions?

Companies across sectors have struggled to find efficient, predictable and affordable transportation options over the past year. This is especially true for companies with a global footprint, as they often find themselves moving goods between continents. Many global shippers rely heavily on air cargo to move goods quickly. Recently, however, these companies have felt the pinch of rate fluctuations, leading to increased difficulty managing costs. During the same time frame, a lot of these...

Maersk discloses mechanical issues disrupted trans-Pacific air cargo service

Ocean shipping and logistics giant Maersk acknowledged this week that persistent mechanical problems prevented its cargo airline from operating two new Boeing freighter aircraft for several weeks on a new route between South Korea and South Carolina.

Business consequences from the grounded aircraft have been limited because the global economic slowdown has decreased interest in air transport, but some customers have experienced delays.

Maersk’s repurposed private airline made its North American...

Maersk Air Cargo idles new freighters as demand subsides

Maersk Air Cargo has parked several leased cargo jets and dialed back flight activity in response to deteriorating demand in the airfreight market. And a planned route between China and the U.S. is on hold because adding new capacity doesn’t make economic sense.

CMA CGM, another ocean carrier that now has an all-cargo airline, recently resumed service between Europe and the U.S. that had been temporarily suspended late last year, demonstrating that carriers respond differently to different...
