Container ship Maersk Batur suffered engine failure shortly after leaving Algeciras, in the afternoon Jan 29, being en route from Algeciras to Newark USA.

At the time of breakdown the ship was sailing in Gibraltar Strait, she started to drift.

Master informed authorities, tug was contracted to tow the ship back to Algeciras, reportedly to be docked in Campameno, for repairs.

Maersk vessel suffers engine damage

Container vessel Maersk Batur suffered engine failure in the afternoon of 29 January 2020, while it was sailing in the Gibraltar Strait. Reports say that the 3,194 TEU vessel started to drift, after the accident.

The 2009-built boxship had left Port of Algeciras in Spain and was en route to Newark, United States. The officials of Maersk Batur informed local authorities about the situation.
