Bisso Towboat to build another 6,000-hp tug at Main Iron

Bisso Towboat Co. Inc. announced yesterday it had awarded a contract to Main Iron Works LLC, Houma, La., to begin construction of another 6,008-bhp Tier 4 Coast Guard-inspected ASD tractor tug.

The tug will be nearly identical to the Andrew S, which Main Iron delivered to Bisso in late November 2019. Robbins Maritime gets first Sub M COI from Hampton Roads sector

On Jan. 10, Robbins Maritime Inc., Norfolk, Va., received a Certificate of Inspection (COI) on its 78′ tug Delta. This was the first Coast Guard option COI issued by U.S. Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads, Va., according to Robbins Maritime officials.

Main Iron Works completes first in trio of new Kirby towboats

Main Iron Works, Houma, La., recently completed the first in a series of three Subchapter M certified 2,68-hp towboats for Kirby Inland Marine.

The 88’x35’x9’Bailey is powered by a pair of Caterpillar 3512C-HD diesel engines, turning 1,340 hp at 1,600 rpm each through Twin Disc MG-5600 gears with 6.04:1 reduction ratios and a shaft braking system. Ship’s service power is provided by two John Deere 99 kW gensets.
