Snapshot: Mainfreight – beyond rational now?

There hasn’t been any update since mid-December from New Zealand’s Mainfreight, but nonetheless its value on the stock exchange reached yet another record high on 31 December: NZ$70 apiece.
For an implied market cap of US$4.93bn.
Which, in a nutshell, implies what exactly on a relative/fundamental basis?
For one thing, the increasingly growing forward disconnect between value and yield – one, respectively, too high the other too low? Pass, this is a high-quality …

On the wires: ‘Monumental’ Mainfreight – healthy, all-organic & delicious

“Mainfreight is pleased to announce our half-year financial results to 30 September 2020 which are in line with the guidance issued in October, and a satisfactory improvement on the same period in the prior year.” – Mainfreight, 10 November 2020 (sourced from here; more here)
I was almost lost for words with New Zealand’s Mainfreight (MFT) after sifting through its interims – not even a sentence supplier helped out today, initially.
Then ‘monumental’ sprang to my …

Supply chain radar: Yet another wonderful dawn with WiseTech, Mainfreight & Kerry

Waking up early in the morning, European time, before trade subsides in Asia Pacific is such a pleasure when the performances of three public companies listed out there, all prominent on our radar, stand out. Even more so in days like these when a rising tide lifts all boats.
First off, Australia’s WiseTech (WTC), which hasn’t received a great deal of attention for some time. With its annual general meeting coming …

M&A radar: Grab some popcorn with Mainfreight in Asia

From afar, New Zealand has always seemed like an almost mythically attractive place.
Lush, prosperous and tolerant, it has none of the alarming wildlife common to its northern neighbour, and appears to outsiders to be very competently run, not least during the Covid-19 crisis.
Little surprise, then, that it is also home to a play-it-safe logistics company – Mainfreight – which, on the face of things, smartly outperforms the global industry and …

Supply chain radar: ‘Distraught?’ Exposure in the dog days of summer

Barring the really weird action of New Zealand’s Mainfreight stock last Friday, briefly down ~ 10% at one point the day after its full annuals were published…
… and a breakout moment that for Australia’s WiseTech has turned sour after a solid rally since mid-March…
…. Hapag-Lloyd’s rollercoaster remains unbeatable out of all those happy supply chain players on our radar.
Sigh
When, changing hands just below €70, I wondered if its stock was only halfway …
