Swift Action at Freeport To Control ‘Water Soluble’ Liquid Spill

Prompt action was taken by the authorities after a “water soluble” liquid was spilt from a container ship at the Freeport, reports Times Malta. 

What happened?

A Freeport spokeswoman said that the incident happened when a container was ruptured during the loading process. 

She added that the Freeport took immediate action to address the spillage.  

Was it a hazardous cargo?

The contents of the container were water-soluble and no material inside that could be classified as hazardous cargo.

24-kg cocaine found in a container at Malta port

Malta’s customs seized 24 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a container, with a street value of 2.7 million euros (3 million U.S. dollars), the Customs Department said on Tuesday, April 9, in a statement.

A total of 20 packets of cocaine were found in a reefer container at the Malta Freeport after several were scanned by the Customs Container Monitoring Unit.

The container was transshipping in Malta from South America, en-route to Tirana, Albania.
