Hapag-Lloyd to retrofit five container vessels to methanol

Together with Seaspan Corporation and MAN Energy Solutions, Hapag-Lloyd plans to convert five 10,100 TEU container vessels to run on methanol.

This project follows the successful test run of a MAN S90 engine retrofitted for methanol use, carried out in Japan by MAN Energy Solutions and Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine. The test proved that the engine – originally built to run on traditional fuel oil – could switch over to methanol without a hitch.

MAN 175D picked to power DOF Sea Dragon OSV newbuild

Poland’s Crist Shipyard has ordered six MAN 12V175D variable speed gensets in connection with the construction of an OSV (offshore support vessel) for DOF. Provisionally named Sea Dragon, the OSV is set to assist operations off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.

Hanwha Ocean orders ME-GI engines for LNG carrier newbuilds

South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean has ordered four MAN B&W 5G70ME-GI Mk10.5 engines in connection with the construction of two 174,000 cubic meter LNG carriers for an undisclosed shipowner. Hanwha Engine Co. will build the engines in South Korea and the contract contains an option for engines for two additional vessels. MAN ES launches new four-stroke ammonia engine R&D project

MAN Energy Solutions is following up on its successes in designing and testing the first two-stroke ammonia engine. It has announced the launch of a new four-stroke ammonia engine R&D project. Called
AmmoniaMot 2, it has been initiated by MAN with partners from industry and research institutes and is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). It began in August and is scheduled to run for 3½ years.
