Bangladeshi crew members remain “hostages” in Kolkata

The crew members of the Bangladesh-flagged vessel that sunk on March 24 in Netaji Subhas Dock in Kolkata have remained virtually “arrested” by the port authority at a hotel in Kolkata since the day of the incident.

The ship owner has reportedly abandoned the vessel, namely Marine Trust-01, on 24 April and the 15 crew members have remained in the hotel surrounded by police.

Bangladeshi container vessel sinks in Kolkata [Photos and video]

Bangladesh-flagged container vessel sank in Netaji Subhas Dock in Kolkata while loading boxes for Chittagong.

The vessel, namely Marine Trust-01, which regularly carries boxes in the Bangladesh India protocol route, sank at the jetty side on Thursday (24 March) morning.

Videos and photos show that the 244 TEU vessel slowly tilted towards the jetty side and lost dozens of containers to the water.
