Port of Dover to use radar tracking and display technology

Cambridge Pixel, a developer of radar display, tracking and recording sub-systems, provided its radar video trackers and display technology to Marico Marine, under an investment by the Port of Dover into safety systems at Europe’s busiest ferry port.

Engineers at Marico Marine asked for a software-based radar tracker to be integrated with its new vessel traffic service (VTS) system in Dover.

NYK to launch digital payment for seafarers

Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) partnered with Philippines-based conglomerate Transnational Diversified Group to present an electronic money platform in favour of seafarers, called ‘MarCoPay’, adapting features of Accenture and Citi. The smart platform, located in Manila, is equally owned by NYK and TDG.

NYK amongst other technology innovations, is aiming to make seafarers’ life easier and efficient by digitalizing their currency.

Canada develops maritime information system for coastal communities

The Government of Canada launched the Enhanced Maritime Situational Awareness initiative pilot project in May 2019, in support of the user-friendly , local data on marine traffic and boost the Canadian indigenous local communities. Thus, the Minister announced a new funding of $6.9 million to attract more participants in the project and also announced the expansion of the pilot project until March 2022.

Intermodal route planner application operational in two continents

Port of Rotterdam’s application ‘Navigate’ is now operational in the ports of Gdansk and SOHAR. Now, importers and exporters are able to select the ideal transport options for containers they want to ship. The application also contains an online information guide for the ports.

Rolls-Royce, ZF work on digital solution to limit fuel consumption and emissions

Rolls-Royce is developing a new electronic monitoring system together with ZF to achieve maximum availability for ships, while keeping fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to a minimum. It will be tested by the Förde Reederei Seetouristik (FRS).

The Equipment Health Management System (EHMS) will collect and analyse data from the MTU engines, ZF transmission systems and other key components on a vessel, analyzing additional factors, like wind, waves and currents.

Application launched to digitalize Antwerp breakbulk sector

The port data platform NxtPort has collaborated with the Antwerp breakbulk community in order to develop a new app. Called Bulkchain, it aims to simplify administration and make the supply chain simpler, faster and more efficient.

Bulkchain was launched at the AntwerpXL breakbulk trade fair and its first two modules are now active. Namely:

  • Terminal delivery order;
  • Terminal delivery confirmation.

Other modules will go online in the next few months.

HVCC to improve its inland waterway shipping at Port of Hamburg

Port of Hamburg’s Hamburg Vessel Coordination Center (HVCC) is developing a digital platform for inland waterway vessels, to allow ship calls to be coordinated centrally in the future.
