Phoenician Energy’s aluminum-air batteries won a place in Yara Marine X’s accelerator program for startups working for greener shipping, Yara Marine X announced recently.

Maersk Essen loses 750 containers, sails for Mexico

It’s happened again. Hundreds of containers carrying goods such as furniture, fitness equipment and electronics have fallen overboard from a California-bound ship.

This time it was the Maersk Essen en route from Xiamen, China, to the Port of Los Angeles last Saturday when, according to the ocean carrier, the container ship experienced a “rough sea encounter.”

Transportation consultant Joshi named FMCSA deputy administrator

Meera Joshi, a transportation consultant who is an advocate for “data-driven policy and urban planning” according to her LinkedIn profile, has been named deputy administrator at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced Thursday.

Ocean carrier ZIM fast-tracks IPO, targets $2 billion valuation

Israeli ocean carrier ZIM Integrated Shipping Services is striking while the iron is hot and moving fast on its initial public offering (IPO). It plans to price its offering and list its stock on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in just a few days — on Jan. 27. The U.S. investor roadshow is now underway.

Port of LA will pay container terminals for efficiency gains

The Port of Los Angeles is willing to pay out $7.5 million to San Pedro Bay container terminals over the next year if they turn trucks faster.

“We see this as an investment in our efficiency,” a port spokesman told American Shipper Wednesday.
