SRC Methanol Superstorage Technology gains RINA AiP

Classification society RINA has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to the SRC Methanol Superstorage Technology, an innovative solution that makes it possible to integrate methanol fuel tanks seamlessly into the limited storage space available onboard a ship.

The comprehensive AiP confirms that the highly space efficient methanol and ethanol fuel storage solution, developed by Estonia-based SRC Group, complies with RINA’s Guide for AiP of Novel Technologies.

World’s largest cement carrier will be Wärtsilä powered

Wärtsilä is to supply a complete propulsion package for the 38,000 dwt cement carrier ordered by NovaAlgoma in July.

NovaAlgoma orders world’s largest (and maybe greenest) cement carrier

NovaAlgoma is a joint venture between Canada’s Algoma Central Corporation and the Italian Swiss-based Nova Marine Group and the ship will not only be the world’s largest cement carrier, but the first ship in the category to be methanol fueled. Expected to launch by the end of 2026, it is already committed on a...

MAN completes Maersk Halifax methanol retrofit

Maersk Halifax engine

PrimeServ, MAN Energy Solutions’ after-sales division, has completed the world’s first retrofit of the engine of a very large container vessel, the Maersk Halifax, to dual fuel methanol operation. The 15,000 TEU vessel entered service in 2017 and was originally powered by an MAN B&W 8G95ME-C9.5 prime mover. The retrofit to an 8G95ME-LGIM Mk10.5 engine enables the Maersk Halifax to operate on green methanol, making it possible to reduce its CO2 emissions by 90%.

The retrofit also included an...
