India starts project to promote methanol as marine fuel

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) decided to start a project to present the use of methanol as maritime fuel. This is an attempt to boost shipping on Indian waterways. Namely, orders have been placed to Cochin Shipyard to retrofit vessels to run on methanol.

Renewable methanol a ‘fuel with a future’ for passenger shipping

The Methanol Institute has welcomed the findings of the MethaShip research project which has concluded that renewable Methanol offers a long term solution for the industry’s carbon emission reduction strategy. The MethaShip partners found that Methanol can offer a dramatic improvement in emissions reduction across multiple ship types, in line with the IMO’s statutory framework for an industry-wide reduction of CO2 emissions.
