MMF MBN Showcasing Maritime Malta Networking Event

The MMF and the UK Branch of the Malta Business Network successfully organised their “Showcasing Maritime Malta” networking event which was held at    the prestigious International Maritime Organization (IMO) Headquarters in London on 27 February.

Upcoming MBN UK Event: Showcasing Maritime Malta

The MMF is teaming up with Malta Business Network UK to organise an event to “Showcase
Maritime Malta” in London to be held on Tuesday 27th February, 2024.

MMF Meeting TM CEO and Permanent Secretary

The Board of the Malta Maritime Forum met with the Chairman and CEO of Transport Malta (TM) and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects to discuss a number of policy issues of prime importance to the maritime industry. The meeting served for the Forum to underline its positions on EU ETS Shipping; the future structure of TM; the Draft Ship Agency Regulations; the Onshore Power Supply project and a number of initiatives announced in the 2024...

MMF sharing concerns regarding ETS with Minister Miriam Dalli

The MMF met with the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise and the CEO of Malta Enterprise where it shared its serious concerns regarding business and carbon leakage risks arising from the implementation of EU ETS on Shipping.

The MMF has so far met 23 different stakeholders on the matter since August as it stepped its efforts to minimise the impending risks on Malta’s maritime industry and the wider economy that depends on efficient shipping connections.

MMF at MCESD Meeting

On 13 October the MMF gave an extensive presentation to the country’s social partners at the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD) on the risks which Malta is facing from the implementation of the Emission Trading System (ETS) on shipping which will come into effect as from January 2024.

The matter of concern was brought to the agenda of the Council at the request of the Malta Employers’ Association further to a briefing held in September with the MMF.

MMF CEO meets EP President Dr Roberta Metsola

On 11 October the MMF CEO Mr Kevin J Borg discussed the implementation of the EU’s Emission Transport System (ETS) on Shipping with the President of the European Parliament, Dr Roberta Metsola, during a recent visit to Brussels.

Kevin J Borg conveyed the MMF’s concerns with the serious risks of business and carbon leakage arising from the implementation of this Directive.  These concerns are shared by other Maritime Clusters within the EU, particularly the Mediterranean.

MMF Meets Hon Ivan Castillo

MMF representatives led by the Chairman, Godwin Xerri met with the Opposition Spokesperson for Maritime Affairs, the Hon Ivan Castillo.
