Masks Making People Immune To COVID19, Says Study

In a major development, researchers have found out that people who contract coronavirus might not become as sick if they wear masks, that is, the mask appears to give them immunity, reports NewsHub.

Evidence of Mask Wearing in Cruise

While it’s unproven, scientists are pointing to earlier evidence such as an outbreak on an Argentinian cruise ship, where workers were given N95 masks and passengers were given surgical coverings.

Earlier cruise ship outbreaks, where mask-wearing wasn’t in place, saw...

Study Underlines Effectiveness of COVID19 Masks

IMAGE

Months into the COVID-19 pandemic, wearing a mask while out in public has become the recommended practice. However, many still question the effectiveness of this and that’s what this study highlighted by Eurekalert is trying to find out.

Dependent on Density & Temperature

To allay these doubts, Padmanabha Prasanna Simha, from the Indian Space Research Organisation, and Prasanna Simha Mohan Rao, from the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, experimentally visualized the...

[Watch]How N95 Masks Can Be Made Reusable in a Electric Cooker

In a major development, researchers out of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign show household electric cookers can be used to decontaminate N95 respirators for reuse, reports the Washington Post

How did it happen?

The request for help reached Thanh H. Nguyen in March, just as the novel coronavirus had begun to ravage the United States, overwhelming hospitals with scores of infectious patients. Could Nguyen, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Illinois at...

N95 Like Reusable Silicon Masks Is the Answer To PPE Shortage

A prototype of the iMASC, a new silicone mask that can be safely reused without fear of contamination.

As the pandemic rages, nurses and doctors have gone to creative extremes to reuse the same masks, gloves, and scrubs they need to treat contagious coronavirus patients. But if a prototype mask created by researchers proves widely effective, it may be a safer alternative for health care workers and that’s what researchers at MIT are trying to do so, reports CNN.

Study Finds The Best COVID19 Face Mask Material

  • New research shows that the most effective homemade face masks are those made with tightly woven fabric and providing a good seal along the edges.
  • Bandanas were not found to be effective.
  • N95 masks need to be properly fitted and should be reserved for those who need them.
  • Surgical face masks are another effective option in areas where they’re readily available.

A team of researchers claims to have found the best materials for homemade face masks, writes Maria Cohut for Medical News Today.

All You Need To Know About N95 Respirators! Do You Need To Buy One?

  • N95 respirators have gained prominence amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Respirators are designed to create a seal around the face so they filter out most particles.
  • They provide the best possible protection in the midst of the current crisis.
  • Governments and hospitals have been racing to buy them for frontline workers and have led to a global shortage of N95 masks.
  • The letter—N, R, or P—refers to whether the mask is resistant to oil-based particles such as solvents and pesticides.
