S. Korean lines jointly commission three box ships

South Korean feeder operators Namsung Shipping, its subsidiary Dong Young Shipping, as well as Dongjin Shipping, are jointly ordering three 1,600TEU ships from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.

Namsung adds ‘extra loader’ on Vietnam services

South Korean feeder operator Namsung Shipping is deploying more ‘extra loader’ services on the southern China-Vietnam route, acceding to government requests to increase shipping capacity on intra-Asia services, in addition to Transpacific and Asia-Europe routes.

Namsung announced, on 16 January, that the 700TEU Pegasus Pacer will operate between southern China and Hai Phong, while on 18 January, the 1,800TEU Starship Leo, will be assigned to a southern China to Ho Chi Minh City service.

Interasia buys newbuilding resale pair

Japanese intra-Asia carrier Interasia Lines has purchased a pair of feeder ship newbuildings from a Chinese ship builder.

Purchased for US$34.5 million in August, the 1,730TEU vessels were originally ordered by German tonnage provider Reederei Nord at Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding in 2014. When Zhejiang Ouhua went bankrupt in 2018, Zhoushan Changhong Shipbuilding took over construction of the vessels and the defunct shipyard’s remaining assets.

Liner operators revamp South Korea-China-Japan service

South Korean feeder operators, Korea Marine Transport Company (KMTC Line), Namsung, Pan Continental (PanCon Line) and CK Line, will launch a joint South Korea-China-Japan service in order to improve service efficiency.

CU Lines joins South Korea-Vietnam route shake up

China United Line (CU Lines), is launching a service between South Korea and South East Asia for the first time after purchasing slots on the Hai Phong Express (HPX) service operated by South Korean carriers HMM and CK Line.

Namsung orders 1,000TEU ships at Dae Sun

Namsung Shipping has ordered a pair of modern and efficient 1,000TEU container ships as the South Korean feeder operator continues to renew its fleet.

South Korea’s first state-subsidised containerships launched

Namsung Shipping has launched the first container ships that were built with subsidies from the South Korean government.

South Korean liner alliance in dispute with Busan Port Authority

Korea Shipping Partnership (KSP), a quasi-alliance of South Korea’s liner and feeder operators, are seeking arbitration with regard to Busan Port Authority’s request that the carriers bear additional costs of KRW4.6 billion (US$3.76 million) for operating the multi-purpose terminal in Busan New Port for the past year.
