NOAA and Ocean Infinity to develop new tools for ocean exploration and mapping

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office of Ocean Exploration and Research and the ocean data and technology company Ocean Infinity have announced a new agreement to develop deepwater autonomous technologies that can gather ultra-high-resolution ocean information.

The four-year Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) between NOAA and Houston-based Ocean Infinity will also focus on advancing telepresence or the transmission of ocean video and information...

NOAA awards $10.2 million for harmful algal bloom research

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will fund 12 new research projects around the U.S.  to better understand and predict harmful algal blooms (HABs) and improve our collective response to them.

NOAA’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) is allocating $10.2 million in fiscal 2019 to fund HAB research across the nation. Approximately $8.4 million of that will cover the first year of new three- to five-year projects, and $1.78 million will go to three-year projects...

Last week, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecasters that monitor oceanic and atmospheric patterns said conditions are now more favorable for above-normal hurricane activity since El Nino has now ended. Two named storms have formed so far this year and the peak months of the hurricane season, August through October, are now underway.

“NOAA will continue to deliver the information that the public depends on before, during and after any storms throughout the hurricane season,”...
