With diesel prices at all-time highs, the American Power Group Inc. is hoping its dual-fuel approach to heavy-duty trucking results in greater interest among owner-operators and small fleets.
The $25,000 retrofit substitutes one of two diesel tanks on a Class 8 tractor with natural gas and uses software to make the two fuels work together, saving money at the pump and reducing emissions.

Cummins Inc. is making all its engine families capable of running on diesel, natural gas or hydrogen in a move to meet its pledge of reducing lifetime greenhouse gas emissions from its new engines 25% by the end of the decade.

Cummins Inc. is now the sole owner of the former Cummins-Westport natural gas engine joint venture, a 10-year partnership that ended Dec. 31, 2021.
Westport Fuel Systems gets $20 million from Cummins in exchange for its share of intellectual property of the joint venture, which Cummins will continue to operate. Natural gas reduces smog-forming emissions by 90% compared to current EPA standards for nitrogen oxide air pollutants.
