US natural gas and oil achieve strong April

The American Petroleum Institute published its latest Monthly Statistical Report (MSR) showing that US crude oil production sustained a record-tying 12.1 million barrels per day (mb/d) in April. Moreover, total petroleum demand was the highest for the month since 2007 at 20.2 million barrels per day.

The demand for distillates (diesel) reduced by 10.9% between March and April and met indicators that freight trucking and industrial activity slowed. In addition, API’s economic indicator, the API...

NSW government gives the nod for first gas terminal

Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government announced it has awarded Development Consent to Australian Industrial Energy’s (AIE) Port Kembla Gas Terminal (PKGT).

The decision by the NSW Minister for Planning, Rob Stokes, comes after a thorough review of the Project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

The gas terminal could supply more than 70% of NSW’s natural gas needs, while creating up to 150 jobs during construction and around 40-50 ongoing roles during operation, AIE said.

Meanwhile,...

Sumas sees highest daily natural gas spot prices in US since 2014

The Sumas trading point on the Canada-Washington border averaged $161.33 per million British thermal units on its natural gas spot prices on March 1. This is the highest daily spot price ever recorded by Natural Gas Intelligence anywhere in the United States in at least five years. The price peak was due to regional supply  constraints and unseasonably cold temperatures.

Specifically, EIA addresses that the high demand happened at the same time with an unusual high demand, when the polar vortex...
