Daimler gets FMCSA to consider rule changes for windshield cameras

Federal regulators will consider revising rules for windshield-mounted cameras in trucks that would make filing for exemptions unnecessary.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration proposal, made at the request of Daimler Trucks North America and scheduled to be published on Tuesday, would increase the area within which a vehicle safety technology device – also known as an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) – can be mounted on the inside of a truck windshield, from 4 inches to 8.5...

Netradyne’s dashcam gets five-year federal waiver

Federal regulators have exempted Netradyne from safety rules to allow the fleet management software company to mount its dashcams lower on truck windshields.

Without the exemption, Netradyne said customers would not be able to install the cameras in an optimal location on the windshield to maximize their effectiveness.

“The Agency has determined that lower placement of the Driveri Dash Cam would not have an adverse impact on safety and that adherence to the terms and conditions of the exemption...

Feds waive regulations for Samsara’s AI Dash Cam

Samsara is getting a five-year waiver from federal regulations that it claims will allow its dashcam to provide optimal safety levels for drivers.

The industrial Internet of Things (IoT) company’s waiver is the second such exemption issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) within the last month. On Oct. 8 the FMCSA granted a five-year waiver to artificial intelligence (AI) startup Nauto for its windshield-mounted collision-avoidance sensor.

In Samsara’s case, FMCSA found...

Feds give AI startup Nauto exemption for collision sensor device

AI startup Nauto can give truck drivers more flexibility in how they mount the company’s collision avoidance device within their truck cab thanks to an exemption granted by federal regulators.

The five-year waiver, which expires in October 2025, will allow the company’s multisensor to be mounted lower in the windshield than is currently permitted for commercial trucks.

Nauto claims to sell the only real-time Al-powered “Driver Behavior Learning Platform” that can help predict and prevent...
