Navistar orders fall but deliveries helped strong Q2 at parent Traton

Traton SE, the parent company of Navistar International, reported dramatically higher second-quarter sales and profits compared with a year earlier. But economic uncertainty resulted in significantly lower incoming orders.

Traton’s adjusted operating profit in the April-June period reached $1.15 billion compared with $438.5 million a year ago. Q2 revenue totaled $12.92 billion compared with $10.47 billion in the same period a year earlier.

Underhood fires prompt Navistar recall of 44,887 older trucks

Navistar is recalling about 45,000 trucks from the 2016-2020 model years because of three under hood fires related to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.

The 44,887 vehicles recalled are all susceptible to potential fires. Navistar investigated three fires before determining that low voltage and amperage to the power distribution module (PDM) was the likely cause. The first fire occurred in January 2022.

Truck Tech: Who’s on first edition

Autonomous trucking is a far weightier topic than baseball, the subject of the famous “Who’s on first?” Abbott and Costello comedy classic. Determining the positions of truck makers and autonomous software developers might be more watchable than even rule-shortened games in the new MLB season.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Cheng Lu mostly watched from the sidelines for seven months as autonomous trucking startup TuSimple nearly imploded from the pressure of internal politics and external investigations. Navistar again boosts Traton Group financials

Germany’s Traton Group reported 32% higher revenues in 2022 despite the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, ongoing supply chain disruptions and record inflation.

Its North American truck-making unit, Navistar International, contributed significantly. Without the Lisle, Illinois-based manufacturer, Traton would have reported just 10% improved revenue year over year. Traton acquired Navistar for $3.7 billion in October 2021.

The truck holding company of Volkswagen AG , Traton is one of the...
